AdventureWorksDW database

I can not find the databases and samples for SSIS that are mentioned in the tutorial on my disks, or DVDs.

Please tell me where I may get them from?

Did you install them from SQL Server setup?

Additionally you can get the sample database and SQL Server 2005 samples from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E719ECF7-9F46-4312-AF89-6AD8702E4E6E&displaylang=en

AdventureWorks Samples Not working

I've installed and deployed the AdventureWorks Sample reports to Report
Manager in RS 2005. When I click on any of the reports, the report just
spins away and never returns the report information. I eventually (10
minutes later) just stop the browser. I made sure I have permissions to all
the data sources as well. Has anyone else had this problem or know where I
can look to see where the report(s) are hanging?
System Information:
Windows XP Pro
IIS 5.x
SQL Server 2005 Std.
VS 2005 Pro
Reporting Services 2005Verify that the dataset(s) in a report are actually working.

get the sample to work with no problem. Strangely also, when I use VS2005 to
deploy and open the Samples folder, I can click on a sample report and it
works as expected. Only when I go to http://localhost/reports/home.aspx ->
AdventureWorks Samples -> Sample report does it just spin away.

AdventureWorks Report Samples Problem

Hi,
I am trying to deploy the AdventureWorks OLAP cube in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Samples\AdventureWorks Analysis Services
Project but unfortunately the folder "AdventureWorks Analysis Services
Project" does not exist nor does the file Adventure Works DW.dwproj. I have
installed the samples using the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples installer.
Where can I find this directory and project?
Kind regards,
TrevorHi Trevor,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup!
From your descriptions, I understood you would like to launch
AdventureWorks Analysis Services Project but cannot find it in the
identified folder. If I have misunderstood your concern, please feel free
to point it out.
Based on my knowledge, please perform the steps below to make sure you have
installed AdventureWorksDW sample datawarehouse and AdventureWorks Sample
OLAP.
- Open Add or remove Programs in Control Panel
- Select Microsoft SQL Server 2005, click Change
- Select Workstation Components under SQL Server 2005 common components,
click Next
- After System Configuration Check, click Next.
- Click Change Installed Components
- Expand Documentation, Samples and Sample Databases, Expand Sample
Databases, Expand AdventureWorksDW Sample Data Warehouse. Make sure
everything was selected and then click Next
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are always here to be of
assistance!

AdventureWorks OLAP Cubes samples missing

Hi there,

I am setting up a demo with Scorecard Manager 2005. After days of struggle, the installation seems to be fine, I can publish all the two dimensional scorecards. But the sample AdventureWorks OLAP cubes do not seem to be accessible or they don't exist - to be more exact, Scorecard Manager is able to log on to the SQL Server database called AdventureWorksDW, but cannot find any cubes.

I downloaded the latest SQL Server 2005 samples here and followed all the instructions to the letter. I did not get any errors while deoplying the AdventureWorks solution in the Business Intelligence Development Studio. One concern related to the samples is that the AdventureWorksAS sample is not available. I thought that the DW database is used there, am I wrong?

I think that I'm missing some key element in deploying the sample OLAP cubes. Is there a way to check that they are made correctly? What application do I best use to peform this check?

I am running Server 2003, SP1, SQL Server 2005 SP1 with Analysis/Reporting/Integration services installed, SharePoint Server 2003 SP2 (all applications are running fine so far on it).

Thank you very much, Radu

PS: I just discovered and error posted by the Event Viewer. It seems that the system admin does not have authority to view ADOMD sources. How can I debug this error? This is a demo setup on a virtual PC so I gave all authorities to Admin from the initial setup and the AdventureWorksDW database exists (the Scorecard Manager app. does find the database, but cannot see any cubes and this is when the error shows up in the Event Viewer).

Here are the error details:

Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdErrorResponseException: Either the user, NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, does not have access to the Adventure Works DW database, or the database does not exist.
at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.XmlaClientProvider.Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection+IXmlaClientProviderEx.Discover(String requestType, IDictionary restrictions, Boolean throwOnErrors, Boolean sendNamespaceCompatibility)
at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection.GetProperty(String propName)
at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection.SetProperty(String propertyName, String propValue)
at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection.ChangeDatabase(String database)
at Microsoft.PerformanceManagement.Scorecards.Server.OlapUtils.GetCubeNames(String databaseName)
at Microsoft.PerformanceManagement.Scorecards.Server.PmServer.GetCubeNames(DataSource dataSource)

I figured it out: there seems to be a mistake in the Scorecard Manager 2005 OLAP cubes samples' settings (the Adventure Works DW samples available here). If you open a scorecard's Data Source (in the Scorecard Builder), you need to erase any Database Roles. The samples come with 'All Users' set, but trying 'Reader' only for example, which is what is needed based on installation instructions, does not work.

Thanks to Ian Tien's site; I downloaded his Adventure Works DW samples, which are based on the 10 Analysis Services' tutorial cubes, and looked at his scorecard's configuration.

I guess this message is more for a Scorecard Manager 2005 board, but I couldn't find one on this MSDN forum site. But Analysis Services are inseparable from Scorecard, so I hope it helps someone.

You'll need the June CTP version of SQL Server Express, which will work just fine with your VS Beta 2. You can download that version from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1A722B0F-6CCA-4E8B-B6EA-12D9C450ED92&displaylang=en

Now I'm trying to learn something about 2005, and sample database would really help. I don't want to reinstall Express because it won't include all tools I need for learning.
Is it possible to download somewhere appropriate version of this sample database?

What I'm asking is is there anywhere older copy of AdventureWorks, compatible with Sqlserver 2005 CTP?

If your version of SQL Server is older than that, then you may have problems using the sample database available from this site. Thanks for your quick response. Specifically, from CreatingMasterDetails sample:

SELECT EmployeeID, NationalIDNumber, ContactID, LoginID, DepartmentID, ManagerID, ShiftID, Title, EmergencyContactID, AddressID, BirthDate, MaritalStatus, Gender, HireDate, SalariedFlag, BaseRate, PayFrequency, VacationHours, SickLeaveHours, CurrentFlag, rowguid, ModifiedDate FROM HumanResources.Employee WHERE (EmployeeID = @.@.IDENTITY)

Several of these fields are not in the employee table (DepartmentID, ShiftID, AddressID...). Is the db different for express and server? The downloaded msi's are the same size. I'm using SQLServer2005.

Thanks.

Before you install SQL Server Express, using Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs to uninstall your current version of .NET Framework 2.0.

Install the version of .NET Framework 2.0 from the SQL Server Express download site and then install SQL Server Express.|||Are you saying that instead of installing appropriate version of AdventureWorks, sql server 2005 Express has to be installed (downloaded from the internet)? I got installation of sql server 2005 CTP from Microsoft, after attending webcast sessions, and it didn't include AdventureWorks database. Now I'm trying to learn something about 2005, and sample database would really help. I don't want to reinstall Express because it won't include all tools I need for learning.
Is it possible to download somewhere appropriate version of this sample database?
Thanks,
Edi|||

What I'm asking is is there anywhere older copy of AdventureWorks, compatible with Sqlserver 2005 CTP?
Thanks

The version of AdventureWorks at this site : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2adbc1a8-ae5c-497d-b584-eab6719300cd&DisplayLang=en
is the appropriate version for SQL Server 2005 June CTP release and SQL Server Express 2005 June CTP.

If your version of SQL Server is older than that, then you may have problems using the sample database available from this site. However, it's not clear to me what version of SQL Server you really have or whether you have SQL Server Express or the Developer edition of SQL Server. Can you run SELECT @.@.VERSION and report back the result? This will identify your SQL Server version and help solve the issue.

|||Well... I have SQL Server 2005 Express Loaded from the June CTP (version 9.00.1128.00) and the above AdventureWorks and it still doesn't work!!!

I still get the error above!... Is there anything else that would work? or better yet are there any other samples out there to down load?

thanks,
ward0093|||

Okay. I've forwarded this to the samples team for further investigation. I'll report back when I get morre information.

In the meantime, if you want other sample databases, you can certainly download and install the pubs and northwind sample databaes from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=06616212-0356-46a0-8da2-eebc53a68034&DisplayLang=en

|||Thanks Gail....

I got it working on my Laptop by still not be development machine... and it was the same install for both machines.

Not sure what the deal is

ward0093|||How did you get it working? I am experiencing the same problem and was unable to install a different version of sql express after uninstalling the version that is bundled with VS beta 2.|||

I just downloaded the samples, and the adventureworksdb. The db doesn't have the sample table layout as the samples. The new version is highly normalized. Is there somewhere to get the older db?

Thanks.

|||

I don't understand what you mean by "The db doesn't have the sample table layout as the samples. " Can you be more specific? The database schema has not changed since the June CTP version, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Thanks.

Thanks.

AdventureWorks db for 101 Samples

I'm not sure if this should be asked here. If it's the wrong place, let me know and I'll correct.
I've just downloaded 101 Samples for Visual Studio 2005. But the data access samples require AdventureWorks database which is not included in the C# sample. Who know where I can get this database? It is a SQL 2005 database, I think.
Thanks!

You can download AdventureWorks from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2adbc1a8-ae5c-497d-b584-eab6719300cd&DisplayLang=en

The database 'AdventureWorks' cannot be opened because it is version 607. This server supports version 603 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported. Could not open new database 'AdventureWorks'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

AdventureWorks database question

How can I install theAdventureWorks database on my box where C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Samples\ is missing? My SQL 2005 is currently without AdventureWorks OLT. I downloaded the Enterprise trial before uninstalling SQL2005Express. Please help. Thanks.

It looks like the AdventureWorks database can be downloadedhere.

Ryan

As I did the following:

exec

sp_attach_db @.dbname=N'AdventureWorks', @.filename1=N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_Data.mdf', @.filename2=N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_log.ldf'

Here's what came back:

Msg 1813, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

Could not open new database 'AdventureWorks'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted.

Msg 602, Level 21, State 50, Line 1

Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 24, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes.

What's wrong here?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

AdventureWorks Database not showing up management studio express

After installing the Adventure works database samples they do NOT show up in Management Studio Express?

I have done a clean install of SQL Server Express 2005 SP1 with Advanced services.

The database samples only install as physical files, they are not attached to the SQL Server process. If you want to use them, go in the SSMS and right click on the Database node, choose All Tasks and click Attach database.. Locate the MDF File and the LDF File and click Apply (or OK). SQL Server will attach the databases to the SQL Server process and you can access the data.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

|||I found this not quite accurat. The Attach is in the Object Explorer window under the sqlexpress datebase, right click Databases (nt Database) then click Attach. The window which opens should show the AdventureWorks database without having to browse. This required action is not mentioned in the tutorial.

Adventure Works DB Samples with Express 2005 SQL Server

Downloaded the file for the Adventure Works DB Sample. Which folder do I need to install it in to have show up in SQL Server Express 2005?

You can put it in any folder you want to (normally in the usual data folder you are using, by default this is located somehwere in the programe files , microsoft SQL Server directory. But you have to attach the database using the sp_attachdb procedure or use the GUI to attach the database, right click on the server --> attach database and you are done.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.
